Central government makes up for Rs 32.98 per litre of the price of petrol in Delhi and sales tax or VAT of the state government constitutes Rs 19.55. Here is looking at the price difference of diesel and petrol in four metro cities on March 17, 2021. New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged for 18th consecutive day on Wednesday as oil marketing companies kept the rates at pause.

As of now, the highest fuel prices are in Mumbai where petrol is at ₹ 97.57 per litre and diesel at Rs 88.60 per litre. The oil marketing companies – Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum align the rates of domestic fuel with the global benchmarks, by taking into account any revisions in the foreign exchange rates.

This massive divergence in prices between Delhi and Mumbai is owing to different prices in different cities. Petrol and Diesel prices are fixed on the basis of freight charges, local taxes, and VAT. On Tuesday, the base price, paid by the dealer, was Rs 33.26 per litre, to this freight charges of Rs 0.28 per litre were added.
