PM Modi addresses MPs, says stepping into future with new Parliament building

Parliament proceedings will shift to the new building today with the Lok Sabha Secretariat designating the new building as the Parliament House of India. Followed by a function organised at the Central Hall to bid farewell to the old Parliament building, proceedings of the second day of the special session will resume at 1.15 p.m. in the Lok Sabha, while the Rajya Sabha will reconvene at 2.15 p.m. Earlier, parliamentarians gathered outside the old building for a group photograph.


On Monday, the session began with PM Narendra Modi opening the discussion on parliamentary journey. MPs across the political spectrum listed the many achievements of the Parliament, with most pitching for greater representation for women. The Lok Sabha saw a brief row over DMK MP A. Raja’s remarks on the European Parliament discussing the Manipur crisis. Treasury bench MPs jumped at his remark to reignite the Sanatana Dharma row, demanding an apology for his remarks. Meanwhile, ex-PM and JD(S) founder HD Devegowda raised the Cauvery water issue seeking a dialogue between the states to resolve it. Parliament special session Day 1 updates
